My step-dad was a professional bull rider. Rodeoed in college
when he was at Dixie before going pro. They used to give gold belt buckles when they won rodeos.

At one rodeo someone broke into the locker room and stole all the gold belt buckles of all the cowboys, including his College National Finals buckle.

That was in the 1970s and it impacted him.

For a while as a kid I was a bit of a clepto. When he told that story and how much it affected him, that someone stole his trophy and then would have just melted it down, it impacted how I viewed other's valuables. It helped cure me of ever taking anything that did not belong to me.

I have done everything I can to teach my kids to respect what is not theirs and to never steal. They all seemed to learn the lesson as none of them have a desire to go into politics.
