With all due respect, playing hockey with the neighbor kids down at the pond,
has no direct bearing on whether a SLC NHL hockey team is a good idea. The city of Atlanta, which has three major pro sports franchises, has lost two NHL franchises because the finances couldn’t work.

Many hockey teams have relocated.

Sometimes to cities like Columbus or Nashville with no major competition. They often move to a warm weather city with lots of displaced snowbirds who have been playing since they were 5.

The Minnesota Northstars!! couldn’t make a go of it and moved to Dallas which has a lot of disposable money and craves the big time. I went to a Dallas Stars game in the early 2020’s and the seat was $120. I was sitting in virtually the same section to see the Mavericks 10 years later and the seat was $79.

Hockey will price itself out of SLC fast.
