Whether most of us want to admit it or not, a lot of your opinion is based on cold, hard facts. I understand that it stings, thus you get a lot of blowback from the “blue goggles” portion of the fan base, but you’re not a bad fan for calling it like it is.

If there is anything to argue about your opinion, I would say that the basketball team is in a better place than the football team ever so slightly. On the bright side, there are an awful lot of programs across the country that would love to see the top 20 as often as we have in recent history, but on the flip side, we’re just not a team that will be getting out of the first round all that often.

For me, I think the most fascinating part of BYU fandom is that the reason we all love the sports programs so much is the EXACT reason why we’ll probably always toil in mediocrity. We are a church ran school with an honor code and the ideals that our sporting programs are meant to have a higher calling than simply wins and losses. There will always be challenges tied to BYU athletics that nearly every other school across the nation simply do not have to deal with.

I tend to believe the happiest of BYU fans are the ones who have come to accept this.
