I disagree. The principles were sound and, as far as I can tell, GE's position

didn't get shaky until Immelt, who fully embrace the new age MBA paradigm of purpose-based investing. He consolidated on politically popular industries and changed GE's culture from a performance-based focus to an activist approach. And it crashed and burned.
