This may sound insensitive, but could you obtain guardianship without
adoption in order to secure rights to decide what’s best for the child? Then it would give you time to vet close relatives that would be potential adoptive parents. Assuming this requires involvement by an adoption agency where you live to accomplish this option.

I know it’s more commonplace today, but I can’t imagine restarting the parenting cycle over again in my 50s. I hear fathers at that age say it keeps them young. Still, I empathize with you. That’s a soul-searching conundrum that may still leave you feeling unsettled regardless of what you ultimately decide. I wish you the best. Thank you for sharing and inspiring.
