What’s true is that altitude and barometric pressure effect the air spaces in the body putting more or less pressure on the organs. That makes breathing more difficult in the moment the person is at different air pressure. Plus commercialized air travel is in pressurized cabins rendering that theory less possible.

I’m unaware of the epithelial lining of the lungs changing significant width.
