Costs are high not because of ED docs.

Those guys and gals take all comers and save lives. They deserve every penny and more.

Health care costs have little to do with physician compensation. Check out salaries of hospital CEOs, CFOs and the other myriad of administrators. Check out salaries of insurance company CEOs, CFOs etc.
