That's the question I'd be asking right there.
Is there anything he can do about it while he's gone? Is he the kind of guy who typically responds to emails and does some level of work even when on vacation?
If he's the type that still works on vacation, I'd let him know. If there's nothing he can do, I'd let it wait.
