In Spanish it seems similar but can make big differences. For example
Voy a trabajar para Jeff means I’m going to work underneath Jeff (like he is my boss)

Voy a trabajar por Jeff means I’m going to work in his place (like take his shift)

in English, I’m going to work for Jeff can mean both and requires further context. Spanish por and para eliminate that problem
