I'm sorry, that sounds really frustrating.
In my case I'll sometimes just hear a high-pitch whine that sounds like feedback, but then it dies down. If I'm in a quiet environment, I can hear it, but I probably only notice it once a week or so. Your case must be very challenging.

For those of you who have tinnitus, is listening to brown noise helpful?

It's a little helpful.

I wonder if it's just a question of degree.

It's very loud in one side and not so loud in the other

There have been times when I've felt like I'd rather be dead

Same here. One ear is very loud, the other comes and goes.

I’m gonna go ahead and google “brown noise.” My guess: fart sounds.

To me it sounds like a large waterfall from a distance
