Especially true here in Utah.
If you are from Utah it is tougher to get in because they only take a limited number of Utah kids.....if students dont like the HC they have an option.....go elsewhere.

The bishop involved there was Dr. Kearl from the Economics Department
hansel

Kearl was the stake president, and he got overruled by SLC...

So are you saying church attendance is a dumb policy at a church school?
HuskerCoug
1/28/13 7:45am
The post I responded to was not only referring to church attendance.
Xamius
1/28/13 7:56am
That wasn't my question

I think the honor code should be more honor based.
Xamius
1/28/13 8:02am
I think complaints about the honor code would go over better....

Space at church schools is limited. There are a lot of hardworking tithe-paying

Well said

it sounds like one big youth conference down there, not a college
whoppercougar
1/28/13 7:53am
In my experience, church at BYU is a lot more laid back than a lot of
hansel
1/28/13 8:06am
Oh, there's a lot of people who care.
bdoggy
1/28/13 8:10am
That's a better way of saying it than I said it

1/28/13 8:15am
good to know. by the ndway, i'm in favor of 100% church attendance...
whoppercougar
1/28/13 8:11am
i already addressed your arguments in my original post
whoppercougar
1/28/13 7:52am
I know over 30 byu bishops as well as students that attend many diffrent wards.
travelcoug
1/28/13 8:03am
good to know but my friend just told me this yesterday...
whoppercougar
1/28/13 8:08am
I don't know what ward your friend's daughter is in

It is the same ward where kids are getting mission calls that say

If you dont want to go to church, dont go to BYU.
WJCougar
1/28/13 7:38am
You have to show up once in a while. Bishops will work with you if you show any

BlackBart
1/28/13 7:52am
skipping church does not make you a bad person
whoppercougar
1/28/13 8:01am
Then that kid needs to be somewhere other than BYU. Part of going to BYU is
BYUtka
1/28/13 8:31am
church activity or no BYU for you: that's a false choice
whoppercougar
1/28/13 8:01am
Why? It's a private school, not public
2FarGone
1/28/13 8:06am
would you be in favor of mandatory home teaching or FHE attendance too?
whoppercougar
1/28/13 8:09am
If BYU chose to do so (which they wouldn't), I'd support them
BlackBart
1/28/13 8:12am
You're avoiding my argument here
2FarGone
1/28/13 8:13am
if that's your attitude you must think BYU admin is perfect
whoppercougar
1/28/13 8:21am
Wow, that's a big leap. Not even close to what I think.

1/28/13 10:55am
False choice? If you know that is what BYU is requiring,
BlackBart
1/28/13 8:06am
No, it's a very real choice

i agree 100% except that i don't think getting kicked out (no endorsement)...
whoppercougar

If the demand for getting in wasn't so high, it wouldn't be. But for every kid
BYUtka
1/28/13 8:16am

No one is FORCING kids to go to Church. Or "Making" Them. They CHOOSE
BYUtka
1/28/13 8:36am
People complain that BYU is more strict than the requirement to have a temple
Littlerich
1/28/13 8:40am
Yes, how dare a church school be religious.
Mars
1/28/13 8:56pm
Not the point at all. How dare a byu student skip church.
whoppercougar
1/28/13 9:01pm
Skipping is fine. Going innactive isn't at a religious school. Uh... duh.
Mars
1/28/13 9:15pm
What is your definition of inactivity from an attendance point of view?
