Good point. I would argue that in a sense we were bailed out by Max Hall.
If Max hadn't come home early from his mission and come to BYU we may have had a couple of years at QB like the Reilly Nelson years.
I would also argue that if Ben Olson hadn't gone on a mission but just flamed out we may not have been able to replace him either. When BYU gets the top recruit at QB it might be a deterrence for other QBs to come to BYU. Especially considering that BYU is drawing from a smaller QB pool than most other schools.
