I'm sure the coaches lose sleep ...
... worrying about whether their recruiting pleases you.

Imagine the utter chaos if dozens or hundreds of fans had input to where that limited number of schollies would go.

That coaching staff wouldn't last long.

Every coaching staff makes mistakes, and 20/20 hindsight would be nice to have BEFORE offering an 18 year old HS student. But any coaching staff needs to come up with a plan and then work together to fill needs with athletes who have the GPA, the character and other intangibles to last in the BYU structure.

Since fans like you don't have access to this kind of information, your opinion is worth as much as mine -- next to zero. Video highlights against HS competition, or number of schollies offered from other schools without BYU requirements, doesn't answer these other questions.

It could be that if this athlete went to BYU camps, he didn't perform as well as others at his position. By trial and error, the coaches learned that offers to top performers at BYU camps is a pretty good predictor of success in the BYU system. Who knows what the reasons are. All of those reasons are not disclosed to BYU fans, nor should they be.
