The Indy debate is such an interesting one to me.
It seems like most of the positives Indy people point to are things that do not directly benefit your average BYU fan.

Money
TV access outside Utah and the surrounding area
Away games all over the country

And I think the argument would be that these things are supposed to make BYU better and get them access to top bowl games which will make them national relevant. And I guess from my perspective the new rules associated with the CFB playoff means BYU would have a better opportunity accessing those bowl games and becoming nationally relevant as a member of the MWC.

I think everyone would agree that being a member of the P5 comes with the best opportunities. But if that's not an option I don't understand why BYU fans aren't pushing for membership in the MWC, where BYU would have a great opportunity year in and year out to compete for the best of the non-P5 autobid to the New Years Day bowls (this year these bowls will be the Cotton, Capital One, Rose, and Sugar). You'd have to think that there would only be a handful of teams considered likely to be the "best of the rest" and I imagine BYU would be on that list every year.

Plus I don't understand why some of the benefits of Indy would have to be lost with a move back to the MWC. It would all depend on what BYU could negotiate. Boise (as a member of the MWC) already plays a majority of it's games on ESPN. And I believe Boise is paid a bonus for games shown on ESPN, ESPN2, and ABC, which helps with the finances. BYU's take home would probably decrease but maybe not as much as people think if BYU could negotiate a similar deal as Boise.

I don't know, it just seems like people are automatically dismissive of the MWC because they perceive it as a step backwards without seriously considering the pros and cons in the new world created by the CFB playoff. And this comes from a Utah fan who wouldn't really enjoy seeing BYU in a New Years Day bowl on a regular basis.
