And it is only getting worse. The country is getting fatter, the expectation is getting thinner.

Maybe I see it differently being a woman, so if anything - read that article to see what messages your wife, daughters, sisters will receive (non-stop, throughout their entire life) regarding how they are "supposed" to look. (It's long but it's a good article.)
While you will occasionally see the "I am beautiful the way I am" approach, society in general trends more and more towards setting up unrealistic expectations.
