Look - players would get an offer from BC and get to 3 stars. They get an offer from UCONN and don't move. Get an offer from FL, go to 4 stars, commit to UCONN and go back to two.
Since we started playing them in 2004, we have winning records against SU & Pitt and are 5-6 against Louisville while never being remotely close to them in the ratings. Not even remotely close.
Works the other way in BB. Jalen Adams just committed to UConn, he went from 4 stars to 5.
Emeka Okafor jumped from 120 to about 60 when Calhoun signed him. He didn't play in the AAU circuit much and the "gurus" thought he only blocked shots because the competition was weak. In 5 minutes of watching, Calhoun decided he had elite footwork and signed him.
Okafor dominated defensively from his second game. Dominated.
