One of the biggest logical fallacies inherent in these kinds of arguments
is an assumption that the 50th best schedule is exactly half as difficult as the 25th best schedule and so on. As if there is some sort of line graph on which each place in the schedule rankings moves exactly one unit to the right. The reality is there may not be much difference at all between the 50th most difficult schedule and the 25th. I realize you said BYU will have the 72nd most difficult schedule for the rest of the season. I picked the numbers 50 and 25 for the simplicity in illustrating my point.

Another problem with comparing schedule strength is that a team like BYU will get dinged heavily for playing Savannah State. As if playing Savannah State will somehow make all of the other games easier. If we dropped Savannah State, our SOS would improve.

Another point I have made continually over the years is that the 49ers won the Super Bowl a few times when their division of the NFC was the weakest division in the NFL. Their relatively weak strength of schedule didn't change the fact that they had the best team. Fortunately for them, the NFL has a playoff that is large enough that they could prove it on the field.

Am I saying BYU is the best team in America? No. But SOS smack is for the weak.
