Your argument is funny
You want "remaining" SOS to equal ranking and that is not how it works (it doesn't matter if a team loses every week, so long as their SOS is good they should be ranked, right?). SOS is used to project how hard a teams schedule is, however, not how good a team is. You might say that a team with the hardest schedule with one loss is better than a team with the 20th/30th without a loss. However, you cannot prove this. You cannot prove that if UTAH/BYU was in the SEC, they wouldn't win. The reason you can't prove it is because neither are in the SEC. They don't have the SEC schedule. (I think both teams would lose multiple times, but i can't prove that either)

Luckily, beyond the SOS, is more statistics that help judge how good a team actually is. Its called the Football Power Index. You had it in that link, but had it sorted by that pesky SOS. But i fixed it for you.

Now according to this, BYU is a top 20 team. Many think that it would take some type of occurrence like 2007 for us to be in the NC game, but i think it would take more than that. I think that the committee will take 2 losses teams over undefeated BYU. However, your "realist" view that an undefeated team doesn't deserve to be top 25 because its remaining games aren't great, is funny to me.

When LBJ was on the Heat, they were one of the best teams in the NBA, right? But because they didn't play themselves, and didn't play the stronger western conference as much, they probably had the worst SOS in the NBA.

So low SOS doesn't equal bad team. High SOS doesn't mean good team. Winning against a high SOS, doesn't mean you are inherently better than winning against a low SOS. Utah had one of its best seasons ever in 2008 with a SOS in the 70's beating alabama, who had the 3rd hardest SOS. In 2004, Utah had the 98th SOS, beating pitt who had the 77th. If your stance is still the same, Then only really happy moments in UofUtah football, should have never happened. They shouldn't have even been ranked in 2004, or 2008.
