in the current landscape it's not such a bad thing...
...we like most of the schools in the AAC, we play them already, it's a better league than the MWC and one we could easily be competing for the conference championship every year and in this day and age it would increase our chance of getting into a NY6 Bowl. It's not a terrible thing to have a friend in the AAC and I think it would be a huge mistake to try and "Big Time" them. I like how the conference and BYU have respected each other and kept the door open. Smart move. Time may come that we might need them.

This year there are 3 NY6 bowl games that can take an at-large team but next year due to the way the playoff schedule works out and conference bowl tie-ins, there's only going to be one NY6 bowl that BYU could possibly get invited to if they go undefeated. Next year, if Taysom comes back, has a great senior year, we kill everyone and finish ranked in the top 5 but get skipped over for the playoffs and then because of conference tie ins and a highly ranked non p5 conference champ going to NY6 games, there's the chance we could get left out in the cold and not have a bowl tie in.
