wasn't nearly as bad before he broke his back. I'm not a Riley sympathizer at all, but we probably don't consider what he had going on during all of that. I was actually talking to a former player the other day and he said nobody (the fans) realizes that he was getting a pain shot before and after every game.
For what it's worth, the players loved Riley because he was "what a D1 QB should be compared to the lazy and arrogant Heaps", and James Lark had pretty much given up so he wasn't an option early in the season according to the former player I talked to.
