Mostly, I think, because I grew up outside of Utah and did not see the rivalry up close. I always cheered for BYU when they played the utes, but thought it would be good for Utah to win. Then...I moved to Provo after I got married. This was in 2003 during the Crowton era. I saw nothing but derision from Ute fans. I am not talking about banter or even trash talk. I saw bitter, spiteful angry ute fans slur the church and BYU. I watched Urban Meyer's antics against the Y and that did it. I have only once been happy to Utah win since then, and that was when they beat Alabama in the Sugar Bowl. Now that they are in the pac-12, I have no reason at all to cheer for them, and probably never will. So, there is my "full conversion story" to not being a Ute fan at all.
