RE: My husband asked the last question. We've gone back to back weeks, and it
Thanks for posting this. Bronco's comments get posted a lot and I always wonder how much of it is taken out of context. Bronco's poor media skills make it easy for that to happen. Hearing this from someone who was actually in the room is much more believable.

The question your husband asked was a good question. We had a fireside in our Stake this past Sunday. Mitch Mathews and Kurt Henderson came. They both did a great job speaking to our YM/YW. They took time at the end to answer questions and both expressed how much they appreciated Coach Mendenhall when a question opened the door for that unsolicited response. You could tell they were both very sincere.

Henderson made a comment about how his mission prepared him to do hard things. He sort of, tongue and cheek, mentioned having all of Utah County hate them when they lose to Utah State as an example of hard things they have to go through.

They talked very little football and shared a lot of testimony, which was great. But the few comments like that one made me realize that they are struggling to climb out of a slump right now and the negativity, real or perceived, that comes from the fanbase, weighs heavily on them.

This past Sunday came after a hard loss, third in a row. Yet these brethren, travelled to our Stake, and were talking about the privilege of playing for BYU and for what it stands for. The chance to represent something good to the world. The spirit they felt in giving service and doing firesides and helping teammates who are not LDS or who are otherwise struggling. You could tell they were intent on doing all they could to succeed on and off the field.

I thought about the angst that is coming from this board lately and suspect that it must get multiplied by 10, when and if, it ever hits the ears of players and coaches. I can only hope they stay away from social media and yet, how is that even possible? Reading this board would be anything but a shot in the arm for these guys as they try to solve mistakes and prepare for their next challenge.

I think there are ways to express frustration and question performance and still leave the team knowing we are behind them all the way. At least I hope there is. You, and your husband, sound like that kind of fan - thanks.
