I read an interview mentioning the possibility of BYU using the Pick and Roll...
...pick and roll this year to help with the half court offense. As boring as the P/R is it's really effective at creating a momentary mismatch and man advantage if you have guys running it who can make it work. Jerry Sloan, John Stockton and the Mailman really hit on something simple yet effective that they then just ran over and over until opposing defenses could show they could slow it down.

It's an interesting possibility and would certainly fix BYU's problems with getting stagnant when forced to play half court. We have some potential bigs with the range to make it work (Isaac Nielson is reported to have good range and looks fairly athletic) and maybe even Nate Austin could provide some offensive value here if he dusts off his outside shot and gets some confidence back in it. They're not great options but it would be interesting to see what they can do.

The big concern is do we have the PG to run it? Kyle certainly has the handles to run it but I'm not sure if he'll have the chops to hit the 3 consistently enough to force the defender to fight over the screen instead of going under it. Chase Fischer certainly has the range and confidence (and successful track record) but I don't know if he has the ball handling ability to be consistently good at it.

Same with Tyler Haws. Supposedly he's been working on his ballhandling during the off season and the range on his 3 pt shot. If he has been improving on both he would be a fun option in a pick and roll and this would get him open shots in an isolated set over and over and force the defense to bring extra men to help cover outside which would create additional openings for others. this would also help Tyler when teams are trying to mug him while he's trying to get open in the half court.

The Spurs run a ton of P/R now in their half court set and have the personnel to make it near impossible to stop consistently.
