The biggest problem with your opinion

is that we don't have a crappy schedule. I mean get real - this is one of the best schedules we have ever had. TX, VA and Cal all in the same season? Not to mention Boise, Houston and UCF who are all comparable to the top teams in the MWC. In the 80s and 90s we would be swooning with a schedule like this one. Yes is also has one of the worst teams we have ever played but that does not make it a bad schedule.
