You may know but very little about football and even less about BYU, but these fire sides are great for recruiting and the players love them. Kyle Van Noy, not sure if you remember him, first considered BYU because of a fireside, and openly admitted he would have never come to BYU if it wasn't for the fireside he attended. After the fireside in Texas right before they played TCU in Cowboy stadium he told several of us that he loves the firesides and will always attend even if he doesn't have a part in it and ziggy along with many others cheered to that.
I know guys like you think that if we cut back on anything that helps with recruiting or even the moral of the team we will magically win the national championship but get real. Look into something before you blindly start bashing it. Several coaches have complained about the firesides because of the unfair advantage it gives to BYU, Whitt is one of them, for a reason. It is VERY beneficial to BYU even if you take out the fact that the players love them.
