BYU knows who the instate kids are, rest assured. Most of them have been identified by the time they are sophomores in high school. When a coach says the schools are into them, the question I ask, enough to offer a scholarship? If a kid is offered multiple D1 scholarships the next question I have as it relates to BYU is what are BYU's recruiting needs, and have they been filled? For example, if the kid is a running back BYU has a 4 star D1 transfer and a 3 star speedster from Texas already committed in this class. A Utah County all-star isn't going to pull an offer from one of those kids. Now if the kid is on the O-line, where BYU is struggling to get good recruits, that is another story.
Parents, coaches, and family members are biased. They always overstate the kids abilities. Always overstate how highly recruited they are, and most often understate the interest from BYU if it doesn't meet their expectations.
