high profile recruits don't seem to fair too well at BYU...
...that would concern me if I was a 4 or 5 star player and offered by BYU. They kind of seems like they go to BYU to wither and die and not really reach their potential. Without really diving in and examining the numbers it's easy to see some of the high profile examples like Matt Reynolds who seemed to peak as a sophomore and then slowly fizzled to the point of not even getting drafted.

A different one would be the case of a player like Brad Sorensen. When he returned from his mission and walked on at BYU coaches were in the middle of their Riley Man-crush period and only had eyes for him. Sorensen was told by coaches he'd never play at BYU and that he should pursue opportunities elsewhere. They did him a favor and he went to Southern Utah, broke many school records and got drafted in the NFL while Riley drove the BYU offense into the ground during his time at the helm.

I wonder what the perception is by some of the high performer kids or kids with NFL potential coming out of high school. Do they see BYU as a place that will help them reach or exceed their potential and max their opportunities at the pro level compared to Utah or now Utah St (or even Boise St) or do they feel like it won't happen at BYU?
