Having attended SC/ND, U/Y, SC/UCLA, these elements are at those games, too.
Albeit on a smaller scale than OSU/UM, but the hate is just as real. In the case of BYU/Yewtah, on a much smaller scale -- but it's still there. This part of these games just tends to get whitewashed out by ESPN production protocol, at least to the viewing audience.

If you've never been to another rivalry game, I guarantee that this "mean"/violent element exists at every one of these games. Just not at the sheer scale you will see at OSU/UM.

At the same time, anyone attending THE GAME in Columbus wearing UM garb from head to foot while walking through 250K Buckeye fans that are inside and immediately surrounding Ohio stadium is asking for it. 2/3rds of the tailgating Buckeye fanbase is drunk by kickoff. I've been to 2 of these games personally, and no one that has even a basic knowledge of this rivalry intentionally does this unless they are asking for a fight.

These fan bases literally "hate" each other. That being said, the hate is almost 180 years old, goes back to the Toledo Strip war of the 1830's, and was fanned into a full rage by Woody Hayes and Bo Schembechler's 10-Year War well before Urban Meyer came to town.

GO COUGS.
