Maybe I shouldn't have assumed you have been around a lot of different sports. This is how it works pretty much everywhere, every sport, every level:

Disappointing team --> fewer fans in attendance (including students) --> less noise --> worse atmosphere.

Focusing on students being "stuck in the corner" and "nosebleeds" just confuses the issue. It is simple, and universal to all sports. Fans show up when the team is good. If the students had been moved to the baseline while Jimmer was here, they would still be filling it up, they would still be loud, and fewer people would be so whiny about it.
