Oro Valley and Vail are both really close to great outdoor activities if you're
into that. Oro Valley is right next to Sabino Canyon which has got some great hiking/biking. Vail is really close to Saguaro National Park which has great biking. Vail is also closer to some cool day trips like Tombstone and Kertchner Caverns and Patagonia Lake. Oro Valley is right up next to Mt. Lemmon so it's hard to compete with the mountain views there. Honestly, though, there's some pretty good mountain views throughout the Tucson area. It all really depends on how your house is situated. Tucson's desert scenery is some of the best I've ever seen (speaking as one who is partial to very green areas like Washington and Oregon).
