I once made a really big mistake in writing a column that I didn't vet

with sources or with my editor.

It was my first job out of college, and I still shake my head and question what I was thinking. And it did haunt me and my credibility for a while.

So I can speak from experience that beat reporters writing columns is not a good idea.
