Never underestimate Tolkien purist rage
The Dead Men of Dunharrow are actually in the book. The elves fighting at Hornburg (Helm's Deep) are not. Peter Jackson went so far as to put Arwen at the battle of Helm's Deep and had to re-edit it after purists went nuts.
