Interesting point.
I hadn't really thought much about the aspect of emotion and how it can impact the rivalry game.

It would be challenging as a coach to know the best approach in coaching a rivalry game.

KW has embraced the passion and emotion of the big game a bit more than Bronco. Logically, I can see where Bronco is coming from in trying to treat it like any other game...but, the results would indicate in this rivalry it would help BYU to play w/ more emotion against the Utes than Bronco has been allowing.

I still think the match up argument is still valid, but maybe the lack of emotion is a big contributor as well. It appears that Bronco goes out of his way to force his team to be extra professional / business as usual type attitude during rivalry weak, and we've all seen the results in the past decade.
