That was when they were UVSC and the first year they moved up to Division 1. If I remember correctly, during the first year a team moves to Division 1, other teams won't get penalized in their strength of schedule by playing them, this is done so the team moving up has a pretty good schedule their first year. I don't think BYU has played them since.

Kind of an interesting note, I think BYU played every Division 1 Utah team that year, also playing SUU, Weber, USU, and UofU (which BYU played three times, twice in the regular season and once in the tournament).
