A Big 12 implosion is the worst possible scenario.
The remaining four power conferences would cherry-pick the best schools thus removing any possibility of anyone outside the Club ever receiving an invitation.

The remaining Big 12 members would have no problem recruiting new members because the CFP contract guarantees them $50M+/year until 2024. However, Fox and ESPN would cancel the existing contract and negotiate a new one that would not be any more lucrative than current G5 TV contracts.

Once the CFP contract expired, the Big 12 would join the BE/AAC as a G5 conference. The remaining power conferences would consolidate their control. They would ensure that the new CFP contract favored them even more than the current one - the G5 schools would have no choice but to go along.

The Club would become even more exclusive. Only 55 schools would determine the future of college athletics.
