Addition by subtraction is our only hope for P5 inclusion
The more I here about future realignment in CF the more I think our best chance for inclusion isn't going to be from expansion of existing conferences but would come from a consolidation of the P5 into 4 super conferences.

A P4 with 16 conference members each would better align with the 4 team playoff format which is looking more and more permanent.

This contraction could allow for some resetting of conference members to get a little more geographic balance.

The fact that WV is in the B12 is a huge impediment to our prospects of ever being added to that conference. That was the oddest if all the expansion moves in all of CF. I wonder if their fans and administrators would rather be in the ACC if they had the choice. Travel and lack of a rivalry has to be tough for them.

The B12 is the most likely candidate to be dismantled with members being divided between the remaining P4 to get them each to 16. All surviving conferences would need to be onboard since there is no perfect combination to make everyone happy. In a sense they would basically be forming a new division for football and I could see them shutting out the G5 completely at that point and giving autobids to the playoff for conference champs after the 4 championship games.

So from now on I'm wishing for contraction rather than expansion. Makes too much sense so I'm sure it will never happen
