CU delivers the Colorado market which has more cable/satellite subscribes than the state of Utah, so CU brings in more money than either Utah or BYU. Furthermore, the combos of Utah/BYU brings in no more money than either would alone. BYU's national fan base is too small outside Utah to deliver a market (get the network on basic cable) so there's no value there.
