Seems pretty obvious they are feeling the isolation and pressure of being independent and in their moment of desperation they apparently have no other choice but to go public about their desire.

Much different message from 2011... "We're happy with independence and we'll continue to monitor the landscape" has evolved into "we want in a P5 conference and independence is indeed unsustainable."
