For same reason that non-athletes go to BYU over elite schools. They love the
gospel, they love dwelling among the saints, they want the gospel integrated with their entire education experience, and they want the most optimal place to find an Eternal mate.
That is why my 6 children went to BYU, most of whom had choices that the world might have considered more elite. BTW, all met their mates at BYU, 5 of them as undergrads.
This is why BYU is #1 in the nation as a first choice institution.
It's fine if you feel differently, others do also; but it's hard to believe you can't see that.
