One year in 35 is about fair...
When you consider that BYU is in Provo...a strange, geographically remote and frigid place and has a Taliban-like Honor Code and rigid academics that the players actually have to do themselves.

Honestly, BYU was very, very, very lucky in the breaks the one time it happened in 1984. There were 5 games won by a TD or less...they had to rely on cannibalism at the top of the polls...

I think the team should have it as a stated goal every year...otherwise, why take the field? But anyone who somehow thinks BYU is Alabama is deluded.

BYU on average punches above it's weight. According to most on this board, BYU...a solid middle weight...should be knocking out the belt holders in the heavy weight division every time it steps in the ring.

No. The world doesn't work that way. It's going to be that rare collection of talent, synergy...and a lot of breaks to get BYU into that kind of discussion. Doesn't mean you don't try. But anyone who takes a goal as a statement of fact deserves the disappointment they end up with. Look at the big picture. BYU can't recruit the athletes that routine national champions recruit. It's not x's and o'x, it's Jimmies and Joes...and ours aren't as good.
