FYI, OSU finished 10th in the coach's poll in 2013. They were 13th in the AP poll though. they were solidly in the top 10 (6th Coaches, 8th AP) before their bowl game. In 2012, they had the postseason ban, so they didn't show up in the coach's poll, but were 3rd in the AP poll. In 2011, they were 6-7. In 2010 and 2009 they finished 5th. In 2008, they finished 9th in the AP poll/11th in AP. In 2007 they finished ranked 4th/5th. In 2006 they finished 2nd. IN 2005 they finished 4th. In 2004 they finished 19/20. In 2003 they finished 4th. In 2002 they won the national championship.

Other than the 2004 and 2011 years, they were a legitimate contender for the NC, especially if you're talking about fans' expectations before the beginning of the season. I think there ARE a handful of schools where the fans can expect national championship consideration year in and year out and not be crazy. The list is very, very, short though. BYU is not on that list, obviously.
