My first job out of high school paid $27,000 a year plus benefits.

That was a decade ago. I can't imagine the job market for lawyers is so terrible that they'd be enticed by a job that essentially guarantees they'd live in poverty. Though I don't know... Maybe there's a lawyer out there who's just salivating at the prospect of earning under $2,000 a month after taxes...
