That would really make the admin look out of touch. Negotiating from a position of strength? Has BYU learned nothing from the past 50 years on the outside?

Besides, BYU should be in a position where it is more willing to take risks than most schools, as they are one of the few that will always have independence to land on if things go sour.

Like I said, I really hope that's not how things were handled. That said, it wouldn't really surprise me.
