The OP touches on the truth. Texas is high maintenance, BYU is as well.

But Texas and BYU are not the same. Texas is the biggest program in college football. And at least in college football, BYU is something much less significant. The BIG12 has reasons to put up with Texas, while there is no reason to endure any high maintenance team that lacks significance.
