There are only 85 scholarship spots on each team, and THOUSANDS of new recruits each year. Playing time is a HUGE part of the equation for each recruit.
BYU is still having no problem competing with top programs. And we are still talking about a game being played by 18-22 year-olds.
8-5 the last three years has way more to do with a loss of focus in recruiting the right players (and the QB situation) than it does the facilities at Oregon or even Utah. We should have been recruiting better linemen, and Anae is fixing this. Look at the recruit BYU got from Utah just yesterday.
Then there is BYU itself, which last time I checked, is a fairly prestigious institution. That's a big selling point.
It's like everyone saying America is doomed because Obama is president. It's not doomed. It's slowly going in the wrong direction and needs to reverse course. But it's not falling apart overnight. Same thing with BYU. BYU is doing its best to keep up, but they aren't standing still or being left in the dust. They are doing their best to keep pace.
