I just don't agree that the decade was as great as you are painting it to be. Defense and bowl game performance were especially bad. Other than the awesome Cotton Bowl win, bowl game performance in the 1990's was abysmal--and Lavell somehow got a free pass when it came to bowl games. We would tar and feather Bronco if he had a similar bowl record. We also forget how stagnant the offense became after 1996--it became VERY predictable. We were all saying the same things about Chow that we are now saying about Anae. In my mind, the "glory days" mostly ended with Ty, and were effectively gone after 1996.
