Even last decade (00) felt different, because conference expansion hadn't happened. Even though the exclusion was blatant and open, there was still a fight going on that it looked like we might be part of the victorious party (MWC a auto bid BCS conference).

Now there doesn't seem to be a fight by a group, it is just BYU, it is all up to us. The pressure is much greater, so with each stumble we feel it harder, and it takes 3 quality victories to outweigh just one bad loss.
