He said he was surprised to hear if they would be selling PHS at all since they had just invested in the multimillion dollar football complex fairly recently. However, he said it wouldn't surprise him if BYU acquired the land without any specific intention to develop it currently or in the near future. BYU, according to him, has standing orders to buy any land close to campus that it can get. The church loves to be prepared, so it wouldn't surprise me if BYU wanted to acquire the land simply to have it available for use. He didn't offer any specifics about what might potentially be built there.
In the linked thread there was a discussion about BYU and a medical school, since the plot of land occupied by PHS would be prime real estate for a medical school complex should BYU decide to build one. This faculty member told me about some factors in why BYU doesn't have a medical school currently. Not sure if I should go into specifics here on the open board since some of it might be rumor, so if you want a summary of this part of the conversation send me a PM. He did say that he believes BYU will eventually open one (in his opinion) in order to train people who can help improve health in areas of south america, africa and parts of asia as the church grows there. He said Intermountain Healthcare would almost certainly support BYU enthusiastically in this endeavor.
