As a full tithe payer, I can speak for my money...
I think it should go towards educating the most intelligent and therefore most deserving students. I don't give a rat's behind if those kids are clean shaven or wear short shorts. Yes, it is subsidized by tithing but it is still an institute of higher learning so the number one priority is to educate people. BYU as an institution will help further the mission of the church if it has bright kids who succeed in life and if it provides groundbreaking research. No one cares if BYU has the nicest, most clean-shaven and most sober students in the country, that doesn't further the mission of the church at all.

I've never bought the argument that if you accept a kid who doesn't want to keep the honor code they are stealing the spot of someone willing to keep the honor code. If the kids who would take their spot weren't accepted at BYU in the first place it is because they are inherently less intelligent/talented. And if I have to choose between smart and rebellious or dumb and obedient then I will take smart and rebellious any day when it comes to an academic institution. I want obedient people as my bishop, not representing my school out in the cutthroat business world.
