I've been thinking about this for a while since the family that sits in front of
us have been very inconsiderate of others around.

One guy brings in an old style seat that sticks 6 inches beyond the back of the bench. I have a seat I brought the first game that is the same depth as the bench and I spent the whole night with my knees in his back and him giving me dirty looks. I finally explained why my knees were in his back. He muttered something about a hook in front of the seat that keeps it in the proper place or something.

If I stand up with the back of my legs against the bench there is literally only 6 to 8 inches between my shins and his seat. Every time someone comes down the row, I either have to give them a big hug so they can get past his seat or climb up on my seat to let them past. When they bump his seat he looks back up at them with a dirty look.

The next game I left the seat at home so I could slide back some. I have family members sitting behind me so we work it out. Luckily we have had an extra ticket so I move where I can straddle his seat.

Just a couple of seats down from him, another family member has a chair that stops at the end of the seat but it reclines back 8 inches into the row behind. Whoever sits behind him has him in their laps.

The next week one of their older kids brought his girlfriend to sit with them (without a ticket on the row) and they decided to squeeze in, some of them sitting back 8 inches past the back of the bench and us trying not to put our knees in their backs.

We by an extra ticket to give us a little extra room and so we had a girl on the row in front come sit on our row to they could spread out a little more.

I hate rules but it ticks me off when people don't have respect for others around them and abuse the space they have purchased.

I am for either a published standard for seats and have seats "certified" or require people to rent them from the stadium. I would make sure the stadium seats are as deep as the bench though. I know there are issues around "certifying" seats but they certainly could do it once and put some type of tag on it so it doesn't have to be re-certified.
